Sedum is that class of plants that suits almost all locations. Its varied range including succulents,semi-succulents annuals and perennials grow at mid and high-hill heights. However, sedum, when provided with moderately suitable conditions, can acclimatise itself on plains too. Sedums can have pointy needle-like leaves or flat leaves. From pots to baskets to beds, sedums can be planted anywhere. In hills, sedums find a place on the edge from where they hang low and throw a beautiful green cover. The best part about sedum is that they do not need much of watering.

* Q: I had covered one litchi plant against winter but the thatch cover has been removed by my gardner who feels that now that winters are almost over the plant needs sun. Is he correct?

Parminder Singh,Chandigarh

No,it is not. The winter is not yet over. At times, late February frost can also damage the plants. And from your query I also feel that you had completely covered the plant. Keep the south east part of the plant open so that it gets proper sunlight even while it’s protected.

* Q: I have recently pruned my mulberry tree. A friend wants to have a plant made out of this tree which is of good quality. Can I make from cutting? Will it give the same quality mulberry?

Sunita Verma,Chandigarh

Yes,go ahead and make 10 inches long cuttings keeping the lower edge at a slant. Place it about two thirds in soil and keep the soil moist. It will be better if you put the cuttings on the spot where you want the plant to be. Or else plant it in a polybag and keep it undisturbed. And yes,as it’s being propagated from cutting,it will bear the same fruit.
