Govt schools outshine private counterparts

Two girls bagged the top slot in the Class VIII results of the Haryana Board declared on Friday. The results also brought cheer among government schools as they outshone private schools in their pass percentage.

The government schools registered a pass percentage of 93.63 per cent as opposed to their private counterparts which scored 90.49 per cent. A total of 4,103 students had appeared for the Class VIII examination and 3,842 passed the exam.

The first position was shared by two girls — Preeti of New India Senior Secondary School and Swati of JP Gurukul,Pinjore,scoring 93.17 per cent. Ashish of JP Gurukul,who stood second in the district,missed the mark by a whisker with a score of 93.16 per cent. Saloni of Sarthak School,Sector 12,and Shweta of Sanskriti School,bagged the third and fourth position by scoring 91.5 and 90.83 per cent,respectively.

Talking to Newsline,Nalini Mimani,district education officer,said the results have also improved considerably this year. “Earlier,the average pass percentage ranged between 50 to 55 per cent but we have all the reasons to smile as the jump in score has been significant. This is also for the first time that we have performed better than private schools,” she said. Another notable development is that of the 129 government schools,60 have registered 100 per cent result in the examinations this year.

Among rural schools,Shivani of Government School,Morni,bagged the top slot by scoring 86.5 per cent. The second and third positions were bagged by Bhupinder and Manpreet,respectively.
