Govt bans public meetings, protests at 10 locations in Shimla

District Magistrate (DM) Anupam Kashyap, issued the prohibitory orders invoking powers under Section 6 of the Punjab State Security Act, 1953.

The local administration in Shimla Saturday imposed restrictions on holding public meetings and protests at 10 locations in the city.

District Magistrate (DM) Anupam Kashyap, issued the prohibitory orders invoking powers under Section 6 of the Punjab State Security Act, 1953.

As per the order, organizing public meetings, taking out processions or rallies, staging demonstrations, raising slogans, playing bands, or carrying items that can be used as weapons with criminal intent is strictly prohibited in the 10 specified areas with immediate effect. The areas including from Chhota Shimla to the Ridge and Kennedy House; within 150 meters from Rendezvous Restaurant to Rivoli Cinema; from Scandal Point to Kali Bari Temple; from Chhota Shimla Gurdwara to Link Road (Chhota Shimla–Kasumpati Road); from Chhota Shimla Chowk to Raj Bhavan and Oak Over; from Chhota Shimla Gurudwara to Satti Stairs and the pedestrian path towards Kasumpati Road; from Cart Road to Majitha House Link Road; from AG Office to Cart Road; from CPWD Office to Chaura Maidan and from the police booth above DC Office towards Lower Bazaar up to 50 meters.

This order shall not apply to police, paramilitary, or military personnel performing their duties. The orders will remain in effect for the next two months.
