For such places make sure that the stone you use is ping-pong sized other wise it will hurt the feet. Normally it is called ‘akhrot dana’ . You can try out more such patterns.
Q: The peas I plant fail time and again. What could be the reason?
Paramjit,Panchkula
Wait for another week and then sow. The dying is linked with excess moisture and high temperature. After sowing in the soil under moist conditions,do not give water. Peas need not more than two to three watering all through its lifetime.
Q: Please tell whether root crops like radish, turnip and carrot should be planted in plain or on ridges. What are the advantages of both?
Rakesh Jaiswal,Mohali
Root crops should preferably be planted on ridges as they get sufficient space to grow roots on loose soil. This also saves them from excessive moisture conditions.
Q: I have received very small bulbs of gladiolus from some nursery through my gardner. Will they flower? My gardner is confidant but I am not. Kindly advise.
Savita,Chandigarh
Without seeing the bulbs I cannot say anything. Normally,a gardner is a good judge, but if you feel they are too small then do not take chances for if they do not flower, you loose one year. The smallest size that gives flowers is called 8X12. If you want to show these to me,you are free to visit my office or call at 0172-2775348 (9 to 5).
