(Express File Photo) The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) warned the allottees of urban estates to remove their encroachments on the road berms or get ready to face the music. The violators have been directed to remove the encroachments on the road berms within 15 days, failing which would lead to penalty of Rs 25 per square feet of the violated area on the 16th day. Thereafter, a fine of Rs 5 per square feet shall be charged for each day of continued encroachment.
The GMADA further ordered that if is not removed by the allottee within 30 days of the notice issued this month, the encroachment will be removed by the development authority at the risk of the allottee without any further notice and the cost of doing the operations will be recovered from the violator along with penalty.
Former municipal councillor Ashok Jha said that the encroachment on the road berms is a major issue in the city and GMADA must remove the illegal encroachments with immediate affect. NS Kalsi, who retired as executive engineer of PUDA said that he had raised the issue many times and it is a welcome step that GMADA is going to take action against the encroachers.
