Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh Wednesday unleashed a scathing attack on civic and GMADA officials for the city’s deteriorating roads and infrastructure, asking them to get out of their “air-conditioned offices” to witness the reality on the ground.
“GMADA earns the most revenue from Mohali, yet residents are deprived of even basic facilities,” Singh said, accusing officials of ignoring on-site inspections and relying only on paperwork.
The legislator, accompanied by the Municipal Commissioner and senior officers, inspected the stretch near a private mall at the Sector 79–68 chowk on Airport Road, and other roads in Mohali where the road has sunk and collapsed in multiple sections.
“This road was built 10-12 years ago, but today it has caved in at several spots. This is nothing less than a waste of public money and a glaring compromise on quality,” Singh said.
Warning to engineers and GMADA
Issuing a strong caution, he declared: “If any serious accident or loss of life occurs due to these conditions, the responsibility will fall squarely on the JE, SDO, XEN, GMADA and all officials concerned. Strict action and FIRs should be registered against them.”
Singh announced he would raise the issue in the Vidhan Sabha session and demand stringent accountability.
The MLA also revealed plans to write to the Chief Minister seeking a vigilance inquiry. “Crores of rupees of public money are being spent, yet roads remain substandard and sewerage problems persist. Officials are working only on files, while ground reality tells a different story,” he alleged.
Calling five of Mohali’s busiest intersection light points “death junctions”, Singh warned, “People’s patience has run out. The government must act firmly to give residents relief and ensure their money is not squandered.”
