THE CHANDIGARH Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Limited (CITCO) has witnessed a dip of Rs 45.44 crore in sale recorded during the first seven months of the current financial year.
As per the performance report from April 1 to November 30 submitted to the CITCO board of directors on Friday, the total sale figure of CITCO having a total of 21 units, both industrial and tourism, was Rs 346.27 crore. The sale was Rs 391.71 crore in the corresponding period during the last financial year.
The industrial wing posted a sale figure of Rs 186.21 crore from April to November which was Rs 245.66 crore last year. The sale of Sales Depot dropped from last year’s figure of Rs 245.12 crore to Rs 185.84 crore.
Hotel Shivalikview has also posted a negative growth by registering sale figure of Rs 12.67 crore against Rs 13.18 crore last year. The sale figure of the hotel has gone down despite complimentary sale of Rs 1.46 crore added in the total sales. Income from room rent and food sales in different restaurants of the hotel have also recorded a downward trend. Hotel Parkview recorded a fall in sale by Rs 22 lakh.
Baithak, a Punjabi-styled restaurant located in Kalagram Complex, registered a fall in sale by Rs 32 lakh. The restaurant has been incurring losses for the past few years forcing the CITCO to lease it out to a private company on November 2.
Hotel Mountview, a five-star hotel, netted an increase of Rs 51 lakh due to room rent and sale at coffee shop, though sale of its two restaurants, banquets and bars has come down.
Kavita Singh, managing director of CITCO, said that corrective steps were being taken to check the downward trend. The performance of each unit would be recorded in the annual confidential report (ACR) of the general manager of the respective unit. “The aim is to make officials accountable. Efficiency of a general manager will be judged on the basis of performance in his\er unit,” she added.
Singh said that they were also streamlining various procedures which affected the overall performance of the corporation.
At present, there are around 1,000 regular employees working with CITCO while a workforce of around 600 has been hired on contract through service providers. On average, the corporation has to shell out around Rs 60 crore annually for remuneration of the staff. The corporation gets no financial assistance from the Chandigarh Administration and has to generate its own funds to meet all expenditure, including salary of the staff.
