The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Ministry of Health to constitute a committee to regulate the sale and maintain a check on the misuse of correction fluid (used to mask errors in text),being used as a source of drug by juveniles.
The directions were passed during the resumed hearing of a PIL filed by a local NGO seeking directions to authorities to curb the menace.
A division bench headed by Justice M M Kumar today ordered that a committee be formed including chief secretaries of both Punjab and Haryana and advisor to UT Administrator to come up with directions to check the problem. Arun Panda,Joint Secretary,Ministry of Health was present at the hearing.
Advocate Onkar Singh Batalvi,counsel for Central government said that the Centre has given Rs 1,200 crore each to the two states till now under the National Rural Health Scheme.
Batalvi added that since correction fluid does not fall in the category of drugs,it is readily available in the market. He also suggested that Ministry of Social Justice and Chemical Fertilizer should be roped in. The court has ordered that a committee be formed and adequate steps be taken. The case has been posted for resumed hearing in the third week of January.
