SIM card traced to Sector-51 resident who claims he was Nehas classmate
In a twist to the Neha murder case, the SIM card that the victim had been using has been traced to a Sector-51 resident,Vikramjeet Singh alias Vikram. Earlier, the family had told the police that the number she was using belonged to her friend,Jyotsana. Meanwhile, forensic report has confirmed that Neha was raped before being murdered. The police are questioning Vikram and his role is under the scanner. Vikram was known to the girl as they had studied together in school. He now works as a teacher in Mohali.
Vikram told the police that he knew Neha and gave her his SIM card three years ago. But he maintained that he had not met her for a year.
Incidentally,Neha’s family did not know that their daughter was using a phone number issued in Vikram’s name. The day she was murdered, her father,Rajinder Singh Ahlawat, had said that Neha changed her number only three days before and so,he was ignorant of her new number. He had also said that Neha had lost her own cellphone after it fell into water, and she had been using Jyotsana’s spare number.
The revelation has further deepened the mystery for the police,as it is unclear why Jyotsana lied to the family that Neha was using her number and why the number was hidden from the family for three years.
Neha’s cellphone is still untraceable, and so is her bag. Meanwhile, the tower location of Nehas cellphone showed that the youth who answered the call that day was in Sector 39 and heading towards Dadu Majra. He had switched off the phone around 9.30 pm. The youth had answered the call saying that the phone has been sold to him for Rs 500 and he was speaking from Badheri.
The police are also probing if the girl knew the perpetrators or if the crime was committed by someone having access to her. The police also suspect the involvement of more than one person in the crime. The police said that they have ruled out robbery as motive,as Nehas diamond ring and earrings were still intact.
The postmortem report of the victim has marked not less than 21 injuries on the body, which include bite marks and injuries on her private parts. The police also said that it is possible that the crime was committed in a fit of rage.
Meanwhile, the police reconstructed the crime scene on Monday and IG P K Srivastava and UT SSP S S Srivastava visited the spot.
