He was born in ‘36,died at the age of 36 and May 6,2009 was his 36th death anniversary. Shiv Kumar Batalvi lives on…as does his poetry,noted for its passion and pathos. His words and verses reflect the soul of Punjab and Batalvi’s romantic poetry has moved many. “I was only six when he died and I am now 43,all these years I,like many others,have known Batalvi through his poetry and to remember him we have been for the last 13 years organizing a literary and musical programme,’’ Govardhan Gabbi talks about Ikk Meri Ankh Kashni organized today by Kaaynaat Arts and Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi. Friends and contemporaries of Batalvi read out his poems,sang his poetry and went down memory lane,remembering the man who became the youngest recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award. “His poetry is so deep,that no one has had the courage to translate it into any other language,’’ Gabbi paid a touching tribute to the Punjabi poet.

Suchitra Mitra,the renowned choreographer,along with music directors Subhashish Hazra and Nasreen hazra from Shanti Niketan will pay a homage to Rabindranath Tagore. Ritu Rang is based on Rabindra Sangeet,portraying the six seasons of the year. The programme will mark the birth anniversary of the legendary poet and songs and dances will depict the impact and effect that nature has on Earth. The change of seasons brings about a change in the mood of the wind and the human mind also reacts accordingly…Feel the magic on May 7 at Tagore Theatre.
