Flood situation under control in Mohali, no need to panic: DC Komal Mittal
Speaking to The Indian Express, Mittal said, “At one point, nearly 70,000 cusecs of water flowed into the Ghaggar, but everything is now under control"

With the Meteorological Department predicting heavy rainfall over the next three days, mild fear has spread among Mohali residents about possible flooding. However, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal has assured that the situation in the district is fully under control.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Mittal said, “At one point, nearly 70,000 cusecs of water flowed into the Ghaggar, but everything is now under control. In Mohali, water enters only from two sides Sukhna Choe and Kaushalya Dam. So far, no water has been released from Kaushalya, while Sukhna Choe has discharged water three times.”
She added that Sukhna Choe has been cleared of silt and obstructions to ensure smooth water flow whenever further discharge takes place. Special arrangements have been made in Derabassi, with flood-control points set up at Amlala (covering five villages) and Tiwana (covering seven villages). Teams with JCBs, tractors, tippers, boats, and other essential equipment have been deployed, along with fully functional control rooms to respond immediately to emergencies.
Mittal said, “Even if 70,000 cusecs of water is released, there may be minor impact but no serious danger. Control rooms are active, SDMs and officers are monitoring ground situations continuously, and teams have been instructed on rescue operations.”
Reassuring residents, she said, “Despite heavy rainfall today, no danger was reported anywhere. People of Mohali need not panic.”
