If Chef Sanjeev Kapoor is known for his elegant andaaz in dishing out culinary tips on cookery shows, then heres someone who is known for his exuberance and signature wardrobe on a TV cookery show. Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, host and chef of the popular show Turban Tadka currently on air on the Food Food channel, has a zany collection of waistcoats that he flaunts on-screen paired with matching turbans. That and his signature quote and song Namak Shamak Dal Dete Hain. Salt reigns supreme in a meal and my song is dedicated to the ingredient, remarked Sokhi who was in the city recently for a culinary workshop. Given his vivacity (apart from Hindi, hes conversant in Punjabi,Bengali,Oriya and Telugu),its little surprise, this close associate of Sanjeev Kapoor has bagged himself the title of Most Admired Chef on Television for the year 2012. In the kitchen,Sokhi is known to pair Indian ingredients in international cuisine and can be credited for dishes such as Kiwi Panha,Rasmalai Black Forest and Ginger and Orange Kulfi. I am extremely excited to see such enthusiasm among Chandigarhians with regard to the show. Looks like everyone enjoys cooking, said Sokhi as he dished out tips to eager learners. I am passionate about everyday ingredients and cooking appliances. Cooking should be fun and quick but with delicious results, said the Chef who is looking to host similar workshops elsewhere in the region.
