In the wake of Tuesdays Supreme Court verdict and just two days ahead of the Allahbad High Court verdict,a flag march was held in this town on Tuesday. SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar conducted the march.
DIG Jatinder Kumar Jain said: There is no reason for any kind of panic. We have the entire situation under control and security arrangements have also been made. We have held meetings of various peace committees and there are no reports of any kind of mischief from any area. We are conducting flag marches in the area to ensure that peace is maintained in the city.
The DIG also confirmed that there have been no preventive arrests yet. SSP Bhullar informed,We have deployed 3,000-3,500 policemen in the area and are ready to tackle any kind of situation. Night vigil is also high but then there should be no reason or worry about any kind of law and order situation for members and leaders of various communities have assured us that they would respect the decision of the HC and that there would not be any kind of law and order problem. The peace committee has been meeting residents of the town and appealing to them to maintain peace and harmony at any cost.
SSP Bhullar added,The forces are keeping a close watch on the situation which till now is calm. Notable here that the town burst into violence a fortnight ago after some miscreants set a local church on fire after the news of a person desecrating the Koran outside the US White House spread. It took the police nearly 12 hours to bring normalcy back to the town, which is predominantly Muslim-populated.
