Fire destroys Sector 34 sweet shop

Goods and electronic appliances worth several lakhs was gutted in a fire in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The shop,Arora Fast Food and Sweets,Sector 34,was completely destroyed in the shop.

The fire department rushed three fire tenders,one each from the Sector 32,38 and 17 fire stations after getting a call at around 3.40 am on Sunday. The fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit near the coffee and tea making machine but the exact reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The fire destroyed and damaged over a dozen refrigerators,furniture,fans and the shop’s false ceiling. Eatables worth thousands which was stored inside the shop were also destroyed in the fire.

The total loss caused due to the fire is estimated to be in several lakhs. Speaking to Newsline,Ranjit Singh,a resident of Sector 48 and owner of the shop,said,“On Sunday at around 3.50,I received a call from someone regarding a fire in my shop. He got my number from the board outside the shop. The person had also informed the police and the fire department. When I reached there,fire tenders were controlling the fire which had engulfed the whole shop.”

Singh added that the kitchen area was saved. A fire inside the kitchen could have had serious consequences as it stored LPG cylinders.
