Film City at Punjabi University soon: V-C

The TV and Film Studio at the Department of Journalism,Punjabi University,got equipment worth Rs 3 lakh for outdoor shooting purposes today.

The TV and Film Studio at the Department of Journalism,Punjabi University,got equipment worth Rs 3 lakh for outdoor shooting purposes today. This adds to the already installed indoor studio equipment worth more than Rs 20 lakh for making films and documentaries.

Confirming the news,Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh,said: “I want Punjabi University to be known for the first-of-its kind Media Centre and Film City that we are going to build at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The centre is scheduled for completion in the next 15 months,and tenders for this have already been floated,” he said.

The vice-chancellor was inaugurating a workshop on ‘Film Production and Appreciation’,organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for its correspondence students. The workshop,being conducted by established film maker G S Chani,is aimed at exposing students to the personal gains and experiences of renowned film makers,said Gurmeet Maan,head of Department,Journalism and Mass Communication.

Chani,who is a visiting faculty at the University of Michigan,Toronto,Cambridge,Boston and FTII,Pune,rated the department’s new studio as “one of the very best in a government university in the country”.

Having shot over 50 documentary and short films of different genres,Chani gave valuable tips to students besides sharing his experiences in film making.
