A man and his son, facing a number of cases allegedly committed suicide in the chamber of their lawyer in the District Court Complex here, police said today. Rajesh Gupta and his minor son Sajan Gupta were allegedly involved more than 35 criminal cases of cheating, looting and fraud. Last evening, the two had come to Amritsar court complex to meet their lawyer Digvijay Singh Jamwal and after a while requested him to allow them to stay in his chamber for the night. In the morning when the lawyer came in the chamber,he found their bodies lying there. They left behind a suicide note saying they were in debt and wanted to end their lives and named three persons who were harassing them for money. The police have registered a case sent the bodies for post mortem during which it was revealed that they had taken some poisonous substance to end their lives. Meanwhile, legal experts questioned as to how the lawyer allowed them stay in his chamber for the night in violation of the norms. We are surprised as to how he (Digvijay Singh Jamwal) allowed his clients to stay in the chamber for the night when the high court has already directed that no one, including the lawyers, can stay in the chambers in the court complex after 6pm, said Pradeep Saini, president of Amritsar Bar Association. Contacted,Jamwal refused to comment saying,I am already very disturbed. Commissioner of Police RP Mittal said they have booked three persons who were named in the suicide note and said they were also investigating the involvement of the lawyer in the crime. We are investigating the matter. The deceased were wanted by the police in several districts, he said. The two had looted more than 12 ATM machines in various districts of Punjab, police said.
