Criminal cases registered on charges of cow smuggling and cow slaughter in Haryana will now be heard in fast track courts. The state government issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday, earmarking designated courts for specific districts.
While the cases registered in the districts of Nuh, Rewari, Narnaul, Charkhi Dasari and Bhiwani will be heard in the designated court of additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) at Nuh, cases registered in the districts of Palwal, Faridabad, Gurugram, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonipat and Panipat will be heard in the court of the ADSJ at Palwal.
The ADSJ court in Ambala will cover the districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Panchkula and Karnal, and the ASDJ court in Hisar will hear cases from Hisar, Jind, Kaithal, Fatehabad and Sirsa districts.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had expressed concern over the increasing number of cow slaughter cases in Haryana. The court had observed that the state was not implementing the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act of 2015 properly.
In June 2020, the then Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced that the state government would ensure that the cases registered under these offences would be taken up for trial in fast-track courts.
