Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patildirected the Administration officials to expedite work on the Metro Rail project

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil on Wednesday directed the Administration officials to expedite work on the Metro Rail project. The officials were directed to constitute the special purpose vehicle (SPV). The administration is holding talks with the Punjab and Haryana governments to constitute SPV. Earlier,the two state governments were not being able to reach an agreement on the equity share for the vehicle. While that issue has been settled,the formation of the SPV is still pending. Thereafter an MoU would be signed and the process for Metro Rail could move forward.

Trial for selection of junior badminton tourney candidates on August 10-11

Trials for the selection of junior boys and girls (under 17 and under 19) for the upcoming Punjab State Championship will be held by the Mohali District Badminton Association at International Public School,Kurali on August 10 and 11. The Championship will be held in Jalandhar between September 1 and September 3.

Woman lodges complaint against neighbours

Jasmine Kalra,25,a resident of Khuda Ali Sher alleged that her neighbours beat her on August 2. In her complaint,Kalra alleged that on August 2,someone banged at her door. Upon opening the door,her neighbours – Rimpy,her son Dilbar and her mother-in-law – attacked her with sharp weapons. A case has been registered under Section 324 and 34 of the IPC with the Sector 11 police.

Hunt on for Facebook account hacker

A resident of Chandigarh alleged that unknown persons hacked his daughters Facebook account. The Cyber Crime Cell has started investigation to identify the accused. A case has been registered under Section 66,66-A,66-D and 66-F of the Information Technology Act with the Manimajra police.

Man arrested,stolen motorcycle recovered

Police arrested Booby,a resident of Sector 52 from Phase-1,Industrial Area with connection to a theft case. Police also recovered the stolen motorcycle bearing a fake Chandigarh registration number from his possession. The vehicle was stolen on August 19,2011 and a case of theft dated August 30,2011 was registered with the Manimajra police. A case of dishonestly receiving stolen property and intent to commit forgery was also registered against the accused with the Industrial Area police station.

Gold ornaments,cellphones stolen

A man on Wednesday lodged a theft case with the Sector 31 police. He alleged that unknown persons stole gold ornaments and two mobile phones from his residence. Police said,thieves broke into the house and stole the valuables.

CID to probe Zubeen Garg’s death after complaint names his manager, festival organiser
