A local court has summoned Siddharth Sanwaria,son of former councillor A P Sanwaria on charges of defamation for October 15. The Court of T P S Randhawa,Judicial Magistrate (first class),passed the order on July 6 on the basis of the complaint filed by P C Sanghi,chairman,Federation of Sector Welfare Association of Chandigarh (FOSWAC). In the complaint it was alleged that Sanwaria had made a frivolous complaint against Sanghi out of malafide intentions and personal prejudice on November 7,2011 to Shivraj V Patil,Chandigarh Administrator,with copies circulated to Congress (I) chief,FOSWAC and mediapersons. According to Sanghi,the complaint made by Sanwaria was with an intent to defame Sanghi and to block the chances for his nomination as a councillor in Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.
Karamchari body elects office-bearers
PANCHKULA: The Panchkula Safai Karamchari Welfare Association on Saturday unanimously elected its president and other office bearers. The Association elected Zile Singh as president,Karamveer Singh as vice-president and other office bearers. The election was held at Sector 5.
50 students attend yoga contest
CHANDIGARH: With a focus on the importance of a robust body and active lifestyle,Stepping Stones Senior Secondary School organised an inter-school yoga competition on Saturday. Around 50 students,who participated,were judged on the basis of six asanas. Director Asha Kumar said that she wished to introduce the contest as an annual event of the school.

Inter-School Debate Competition was conducted on Saturday at St Stephen’s School,Sector 45. The topic for the debate was A disciplined mind is a free mind. Aniket Aich and Fiona Waddell of Frank Anthony
Public School,Delhi,won the contest.
Ram Darbar man booked for assault
CHANDIGARH: A Ram Darbar resident alleged that a man of the same locality physically assaulted him at Hallomajra on Friday. According to the police,the accused alleged that the victim,Baljinder Singh,was providing information of his brother,who was arrested in the theft case,to the police. A case has been registered against Vijay under Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt),324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 31 Police Station.
Workshop on vegetables held
MOHALI: Ashmah International School,Sector 70,organised a workshop for students with vegetables and fruits. Children dressed as vegetables were apprised about the benefits of fruits and green-leafy vegetables. A quiz on ‘our helpers’ was also organised for the students.
Students celebrate ice cream day
Mohali: Students of Shamrock Public School,Sector 69,celebrated ‘ice-cream day’ on Saturday. Students also participated in a painting competition on ice cream. Principal R K Sharma,while narrating the history of ice cream to the children,said it was first made in England. She also highlighted the merits and demerits of having ice cream.
