Without doubt garden supplements add to the beauty of a space. There is a wide range of such adornments that make the garden more attractive. The appropriately displayed pieces of show make the garden complete. Many attractive terracotta products are available in the market. Unlike the stone and fibreglass statues, these are very cheap and affordable for anyone. There is also a wide range of such toys and one can also get a fountain for miniature display. Such toys fit well in the garden landscape as they match in colour to the earthen pots. You can also get earthen bells, lanterns, animal figures, diyas, figures of Gods and Goddesses and artistic murals.

Virander Goel on e-mail

Q: Please suggest some variety of guava, the fruit of which is free from insects in the rainy season. My fruits are infested with some white crawling insects. What are these insects?
Sanjiv,Chandigarh
A: The insects in your guava fruit are the maggots of fruit fly. They appear in rainy season crop. There is no variety of guava that is free from it. It is the proper management by which you can keep your fruit free from insects. It is better to avoid taking rainy season crop,as the winter crop is free from this menace and also is of better quality. Or else, eat the fruit when it is still hard but sweet as the insect punctures the fruit to lay eggs only when it is about to ripen and the skin is soft.

Q: Some insect, which is not visible,is damaging my guava and grape leaves. The leaves are getting skeletonised,i.e. leaf veins are left and the rest of the green is eaten. Please advise what is this insect and what should I do?
Manisha,Panchkula
A: The culprit insect is Chaffer beetle. Spray sevin (carbaryl),dissolved at two and a half gram to a litre of water. Repeat the spray after a fortnight. It would be better to spray during late hours in the evening as the insect appears at that time.
