In order to tighten the noose around violators, the UT Estate Office (EO) has served notices to over 150 residents living in different Sectors along Udyog Path.
Sources in the Building Branch of the EO say that notices have been issued to those who have encroached upon government land or have violated building bylaws in their houses.
The notices served to residents of Sector 18,19,20,27,30 etc, mention that the residents should remove the violationing elements or should pay the fine for those violations which are compoundable or the EO will be conducting a demolition drive in these sectors in a few days.
The UT Estate Office has done a survey in the recent past and found that many of the houses had blatantly violated building bylaws and thus spoiled the picture of the street and also upset the symmetry of lanes.
The EO officials have given time to those who have been served with notices to remove encroachments including extensions of the front gate, creating a parking area on government land, constructing extended rooms, extra balconies etc.
A senior official of the EO said,For certain violations, there are compounding charges depending on the violations and the same can be regularized after paying the requisite fees.
We have already given enough time to the violators, those who still have not adhered to the notices will not be spared, he said.
We have already written to the UT Police to provide us with policemen so that we can conduct our drive. As soon as we get the go ahead,we will be demolishing all unauthorised structures,he added.
Prior to this, the EO had drawn flak for serving only about 400 violation notices to residents premises in the city despite thousands of visible violations across the city.
The EO officials had cited staff shortages to check on the same.
