Double jolt for Dushyant’s JJP: Party’s Haryana chief, general secy resign
The two resignations have come as a setback for the JJP

In a jolt to the Jannayak Janta Party, its Haryana unit chief Sardar Nishan Singh and general secretary Kamlesh Singh Saini Monday resigned from the party. While Nishan Singh, a former MLA, did not disclose his future plans, Saini is likely to join the BJP.
Nishan Singh said he has conveyed the party leadership about his decision and will be sending a formal resignation to JJP’s national president Ajay Singh Chautala. He said he would decide his next move after consulting with his friends and supporters. There are speculations that he may join Congress.
Nishan Singh was earlier associated with Indian National Lok Dal and had won the Assembly election from Tohana as party candidate. After the vertical split in the INLD, he became part of the JJP, which came into existence in December 2018.
Meanwhile, Saini, who is also chairperson, Narnaul municipal council, sent her resignation letter to the Ajay Chautala, saying that she is “resigning from the primary membership of the JJP and from all the posts I hold”.
Saini said she has taken the decision keeping in view the sentiments and feedback from her supporters.
Asked about her next course of action and whether she will join any other political outfit, Saini, said, “This decision too will be taken after consulting my supporters and the people”.
Her supporters said that she was likely to join the BJP. She had contested the 2019 Assemby elections in state a JJP candidate from Narnaul and lost to BJP’s Om Prakash Yadav by a thin margin of 4,573 votes.
The two resignations have come as a setback for the JJP. Earlier, party senior leader and former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala had announced it will field its candidates from all 10 seats in the May 25 Lok Sabha elections.
Recently, Dushyant faced protests from farmers in at least three villages in Hisar. The farmers have been expressing their displeasure against Dushyant for not supporting their agitation against the now repealed farm laws.
The JJP had won ten seats in the 2019 Assembly polls. It had later joined hands with the BJP, which fell six short of the majority mark, to form the government in the state in which Dushyant was the deputy chief minister. On March 12, the BJP severed its ties with JJP and replaced Manohar Lal Khattar with Nayab Singh Saini as Haryana’s chief minister.
