Like many other flowering trees in city, silver oak (in picture above) is also at its best these days. The tree is named so because as the wind flows, the leaves show their silvery back. The tree bears tufts of yellow blooms that are mostly borne in its middle. It is very hardy and used for avenue plantation in farm houses. However, its prone to attack by white ants and a periodical vigil should be kept to control the insects. The tree is almost pyramid-shaped. In case one feels it has outgrown and needs to be pruned,it can be headed back from the top. It regains its shape in a few days.
