After putting on hold the house-to-house survey to check antecedents of domestic help and tenants, the Panchkula Police have decided to re-start the survey.
The decision was taken in a meeting with senior citizens of Panchkula on Sunday keeping in mind the overwhelming demand. Earlier, the police had stopped the survey after reports that residents were being inconvenienced.
Commissioner of the Panchkula-Ambala range,Rajbir Deswal, said on Sunday the survey would be re-started from September 18.
Deswal said that during the meeting of the Senior Citizens Forum of Sector 8,it was decided,on the demand of the Forum, that a survey launched last month to get the details of servants, paying guests and senior citizens would be resumed with the help of trained women personnel of Rapid Action Force.
He also added that a senior citizens cell would be set up shortly in district police offices in the entire Commissionerate of Panchkula-Ambala range.
It would be assigned with the task of visiting and identifying senior citizens on a regular basis besides looking into and redressing their grievances.
We will be involving women police personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) that is routinely used to control law and order in Panchkula.
The decision itself comes after the residents sought the survey should be re-started and also demanded the police increase patrolling in residential areas to avoid incidents of chain-snatching and robbery.
We are concerned about the well-being and security of the elderly. In Panchkula,we will also be using the women helpline to take distress calls from the elderly, who can also send for the police control room vehicles in distress, he added.
Also, the residents have been contending that such a survey was essential as it would help the police maintain an updated list of senior citizens and tenants residing in Panchkula.
Meanwhile,Deswal said the survey would begin again from the left out areas and the police will maintain an updated data base of tenants and domestic servants.
The move was welcomed by residents with the president of Panchkula Citizens Welfare Association (CWA),S K Nayar, said the survey was essential in Panchkula and would help deter criminals from carrying out their activities.
We can also help the police in carrying out the verification by providing the personnel for the job and there would be no resistance to the move, said Nayar.
