In what can be viewed as an interim relief for Beas MLA Manjinder Singh Kang, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the state government not to further curtail the security given to him. Appearing on behalf of the state,a law officer said the security given to all individuals was reviewed after every six months. The same rule, the law officer said, was applied in case of Kang after which the number of security personnel deputed to guard him was reduced from 50 to 26. On the other hand, the counsel for Kang countered the contentions, submitting that there was threat to Kangs life. The court asked the state not to further curtail his security till December 7,the next date of hearing. Kang is one of the two MLAs who are supporting Manpreet Badal, who was expelled from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and sacked from the Cabinet.
