With construction of the proposed Road Under Bridge (RUB) at the Mansa Devi railway crossing to begin soon, residents will be in for some inconvenience.
The authorities have decided to divert traffic on the route from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) land. Moreover,as the railway crossing will also be closed for traffic,a four-lane road from Sector 6 of MDC is being constructed and the railway closing point is being shifted to around 400 metres towards Chandigarh from its current point.
The work for construction of the RUB has been allotted. While the earlier plans were of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at the point,a survey revealed that RUB would be a much safer option for the topography of the area. The project will cost Rs 11 crore and the total length of the RUB will be around 550 metres. The RUB would begin from the point where the road from Panchkula and Manimajra meet and will end near the point from where the roads divert to Mansa Devi shrine and towards Saketri village, said a PWD (B and R) official.
Construction will be completed in a year and work to create a diversion route is already on. The moment the diversion is ready, the construction of the RUB will begin, added the official.
The RUB was proposed keeping in mind the heavy traffic on the stretch. The railway crossing at the Mansa Devi complex is one of the busiest roads. Besides being a residential area, lakhs of people visit the Mansa Devi shrine, said the official.
