Direct flights between Amritsar and Bangkok to start in October
Sameep Singh Gumtala, the coordinator of the Fly Amritsar Initiative, said this would reduce travel time by “eight to ten hours”.

Direct flights between Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Das International Airport Amritsar and Bangkok will launch on October 28, scheduled for four days a week.
From Amritsar, flights will depart at 12.25 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) at 6.15 am.
Flights from the DMK will leave at 8.10 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and arrive in Amritsar at 11.25 pm.
They will be operated by the Thai Lion Air airline.
Sameep Singh Gumtala, the coordinator of the Fly Amritsar Initiative, said, “These flights will not only benefit the Sikh and Punjabi communities living in Thailand but also promote tourism and trade in Punjab and North India. Additionally, people of various other faiths will be able to visit the Harmandir Sahib and other historic sites directly in Punjab.”
While Amritsar has direct connections to many Southeast Asian countries, “through Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia X, Batik Air, and Scoot via Kuala Lumpur,” Gumtala said this initiative would reduce travel time by “eight to ten hours”.
“The introduction of this direct flight will also benefit residents of neighboring states such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh, who frequently travel to Thailand. The Fly Amritsar Initiative is appealing to the Punjabi community to take advantage of this new flight and help make the route a success. They hope that after the success of this route, other Thai airlines will also consider starting flights to Amritsar,” he added.
