Diamonds & Drama

The diamonds are set in geometrical shapes made using a stainless steel base, which is not a common choice for jewellery.

British designer Gareth Pugh, whose clients include the likes of Kylie Minogue,Beyonce Knowles and Lady Gaga, was in Mumbai last week to launch a unique neck-piece created in collaboration with a diamond company. The armour-like necklace, studded with 101 Forevermark diamonds and 5,500 tiny diamonds,is a statement accessory that reflects his trademark unorthodox style. The diamonds are set in geometrical shapes made using a stainless steel base, which is not a common choice for jewellery. “I like the idea of mixing together two disparate elements. Steel certainly does sound very industrial, but we have worked it like you would a precious metal, and it has a delicacy to it that is quite unexpected,” said the designer. Pugh was also impressed by Mumbai’s sights, smells and sounds. “I have always wanted to visit India and would best describe the place as a complete sensory overload,” he said.
