For the amount of hardwork and perseverance they put in,Dev Saini and Garima Goyal were rewarded with success when they both won two titles each in the Sh Kishan Lal Memorial Invitational Table Tennis Tournament held at Table Tennis Hall,Sector 23,on Sunday. Dev won youth boys and men singles title,while Garima lifted the women singles and junior girls’ titles.
Dev,a student of New Public School,Sector 18,prevailed over Yakshap Jindal of Delhi 11-9,9-11,8-11,11-9,11-7,11-9 in a closely fought final match in the youth boys’ singles category. Meanwhile,he lost just one game during his 11-8,11-7,12-10,9-11,11-9 win over Vikas Sharma of Punjab in the final match of men’s singles category. In another match,Mayank Kapoor of DAV-8 recorded a narrow 12-10,8-11,8-11,11-5,10-12,11-8,11-8 win over Dinkar Goyal of Shishu Niketan-22 to claim the junior boys’ title.
Garima,on the other hand,started with a win in the junior girls’ final when she got the better of Naina Suri of DAV-8 by a margin of 11-8,8-11,11-9,12-10,9-11,11-9. However,she lost her next final match in the youth girls’ category to favourite Nadia Saini of GGSCW-26 in a closely fought match 11-9,11-8,5-11,7-11,11-9,9-11,11-8. However,she took revenge for her defeat by getting the better of Nadia in the final match of women’s singles category 11-9,11-8,8-11,9-11,11-8,9-11,11-9 to claim the title.
