Another 10 per cent hike in remuneration to paper setters and evaluators of Panjab University has been recently approved by the Senate.

Another 10 per cent hike in remuneration to paper setters and evaluators of Panjab University has been recently approved by the Senate. Ironically, despite the annual hike that has now become almost a norm,it has hardly proved to be effective in dealing with the perennial problem of delay in examinations and results due to shortage of paper setters and evaluators.

Even the Vice Chancellor Prof R C Sobti expressed his helplessness in resolving the issue. “Apart from the annual hike,we can only persuade the faculty members to do the job of paper setters and evaluators,” he said.

While the faculty members have been lamenting time and again that the ‘meager’ remuneration paid is hardly any reward of their services that is time consuming and most of the times coincide with their vacations.

After complaints from the teachers, the University increased renumeration by 10 per cent. Though the teachers demanded atleast a 25 per cent hike. The increase of a mere Rs 2-4 did not attract the teachers.

Despite the annual hike, the remuneration given to the evaluators and paper setters is between Rs 10-20 per answer sheet for undergraduate and post graduate courses. Thus, this justification by the faculty members that the job that takes hours is minimally paid.
