Punjab Deputy Chief Minster Sukhbir Singh Badal termed the population of the country as its biggest asset while inaugurating a conference titled Making Punjab the skill capital of the world,organised by the International Punjabi Chamber for Service Industries (IPCSI) in collaboration with the Institute of Technology and Future Management Trends (ITFT) on Saturday.
Badal said that with Punjab emerging as the main centre to train and export skilled human resource to the world,the time has come for NRIs to exploit
this opportunity by investing in the state.
Punjab is investing heavily in developing human resource according to changing needs of the industry, he said,adding that institutes like Indian Institute of Technology,Indian School of Business and central universities are being set up in the state.
Asking NRIs to invest in renewable energy ventures,the Deputy CM added that Punjab was committed to providing power for the industry,single window clearance of all ventures besides ensuring world-class road and air connectivity.
Addressing the gathering,Principal Secretary D S Bains said the Central government proposes to create a resource base of 500 million skilled workers by 2022 and 15 million people would be trained annually.
Punjab has identified nine sectors including drivers for heavy machinery,hospitality industry,dairy entrepreneurs,training for poultry,horse breeding,security personnel,construction workers and health care workers in which training would be provided, he said.
Presiding over the conference,Minister for NRI Affairs Sewa Singh Sekhwan asked Punjabi NRIs to return to the country
and use their entrepreneurial qualities and dedication to help the state.
Dr Gulshan Sharma,secretary general of IPCSI,NRI Affairs,Punjab Advocate General H S Mattewal,Canadian MP Gurbax Singh Malhi and Chief Secretary S C Aggarwal also spoke on the occasion.
