Two days after joining the BJP, sitting Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on Thursday said that Ludhiana is the constituency from where he wants to contest on a BJP ticket. While speaking with The Indian Express, Bittu said, “All talks happened before my joining the BJP and now that party has announced to contest all 13 seats.
So prominent faces need to be there from all the seats. As I am from Ludhiana, Maharani Parneet Kaur is from Patiala, similarly, there are candidates from other seats as well.” While the BJP is yet to make an announcement of tickets for Punjab, sources said that the announcement is likely to happen soon.
Bittu won from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019. Talking about the anti-incumbency factor from Ludhiana seat while being a two-time MP, he said, “There are many people who have contested 6-7 times as well from a single constituencies in various parts of the the country. I am a two-time Ludhiana MP while I won my first Lok Sabha election in 2009 from Anandpur Sahib. I had come to Ludhiana weeks before the 2014 polls when Manish ji (Manish Tewari) had cited personal reasons for not contesting from Ludhiana despite being a sitting MP. At that time, people had supported me and in 2019 as well they did support and I am sure this time too they will support…no doubt I am new to the BJP but I will walk along with all and will take guidance from the senior BJP leaders.”
He added, “I am a Punjabi who never runs away after leaving the constituency…”
“Everyone will see that in both AAP governments in Delhi and Punjab will not be able to sustain and their MLAs will leave the party as they are already feeling suffocated. A number of their MLAs are in touch with us. Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested, Raghav Chadha is out of the country, their MLAs will leave the party and the government will fall in both places,” he said.
When asked about the possible names, state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar said, “We had a meeting and sent a few names from each constituency. However the final announcement will be made by the party high command.”
