Cops’ U-turn: ‘Arrested Makhan not linked to DSP twin murder’

Police on Monday said that they have arrested history-sheeter Makhan Singh in Barnala and at the same time denied that the wanted criminal was behind the murder of DSP Balraj Singh Gill and Monica Kapilla.

Police on Monday said that they have arrested history-sheeter Makhan Singh in Barnala and at the same time denied that the wanted criminal was behind the murder of DSP Balraj Singh Gill and Monica Kapilla.

Ironically, the police on Sunday had claimed that Makhan could be behind the twin murders.

L K Yadav,DIG Patiala Range, said: “We have thoroughly interrogated Makhan Singh and found no clue to his link with the DSP murder whatsoever. Makhan is a dreaded criminal and wanted in over 79 cases of thefts, loots, murder, bail jumping. He has been declared a proclaimed offender, but the fact is that he or his two gang members caught by us in the murder case of ASI Harbhajan Singh, have nothing to do with the DSP murder case.”

Police had claimed earlier that Falel Singh and Jagga Singh, arrested for the murder of the ASI,had told them that Makhan Singh in a telephonic conversation with the duo had claimed of committing “a bigger crime as he had killed an officer, many ranks senior than the ASI”.
