Congress set the tone for the forthcoming elections of the Municipal Corporation at a delegates conference held on Sunday.

Congress set the tone for the forthcoming elections of the Municipal Corporation at a delegates conference held on Sunday. A resolution was adopted to ensure victory in 22 out of 26 seats of the MC.

President of the city unit of Congress,B B Bahl said: “With just four members in the Opposition,the other parties need to be told what the Congress is all about,” He added that after winning the elections the focus of the party would be on the Lok Sabha elections that are scheduled three years from now. The aim would be to help Union Minister Pawan Bansal win by a margin of one lakh votes. This was the second resolution adopted by the party.

The speakers on the occasion talked at length about the development work undertaken by the Congress in the city as well as at the national level. Councillor Anu Chatrath talked about the various projects undertaken by the civic body,in the city.

Senior party leader Subhash Chawla said the Congress won the elections in the city because of the development work undertaken by the party. He said that the civic body changed the face of the city. “BJP knows that it cannot defeat Congress on policies,so the party is trying to spread misinformation through its campaign,” he said.

The conference also discussed the distribution of tickets for the elections.

It was stressed that the work being done by every worker has been noticed by the party and that the tickets would be distributed fairly. Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh said that the councillors were working hard to get work executed in their wards. He added that the party workers would be given tickets and allow them a chance to contest.

President of District Congress Committee (Urban),I H S Lucky said that the BJP does not have the moral right to talk of corruption. He also highlighted the programmes undertaken by the Congress like MNREGA and RTI Act.
