Conference on civil military relations kicks off at PU

A two-day long international conference on ‘Civil military relations in India: retrospect and prospects’ started at the Golden Jubilee Hall in the Panjab University today.

A two-day long international conference on ‘Civil military relations in India: retrospect and prospects’ started at the Golden Jubilee Hall in the Panjab University today.

Randeep Singh Surjewala,Minister of Power,Water Supply and Sanitation and Parliamentary Affairs,Haryana was the chief guest on the occasion. Complimenting the Indian forces for their commitment,responsibility and determination in guarding the nation in any critical situation,he expressed his concern at the growing indiscipline in civil society and called upon the gathering to find a solution to this problem.

General Shankar Roy Chowdhary,former Chief of Army,in his keynote address said that civil and military relations in India have been contentious issues for decades.

Shekhar Dutt,Deputy National Security Advisor,pointed out that civil military relations form an essential part of national security strategy.

He added that,ever since independence,the civil-military relations in India have been perceived as an exception as there is a remarkable consensus of purpose in India between the Army officers and their civil counterparts in the maintenance of civil supremacy and the rule of law.
