Be careful

Barely a week after the acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court,Justice Jasbir Singh paid a surprise visit to Patiala District and Sessions Court,a similar surprise visit was paid to various offices of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This time, however,it was not the acting Chief Justice but Registrars of the HC who were entrusted with the task of paying the surprise visit to the offices to check whether the employees,of the HC,were functioning satisfactorily. A few of them were not found on their seats and in offices. To ensure litigants do not suffer, the HC employees have been “advised” to “remain careful”.

Picture this

Amidst raging cold wars and resentments amongst its rank, the Chandigarh Police is now trying to highlight the “unity” amongst its personnel through photographs showing top officials in one frame. The corridor of the headquarters outside the SSP’s office has been recently decorated with pictures of the various events and pictures of Senior Police officers with various dignitaries. One of the officers remarked,“I thought I came into a museum. Anyhow, the pictures are nice”. Another officer quipped,“It is like our own art gallery!” More pictures are set to be put up at the Police headquarters to make the place a little more “appealing”

CBI teams

During the hearing of the infamous Amusement-cum-Theme park scam case, tempers ran high as the complainant entered into an argument with the counsel of one of the co-accused. Referring to the lawyer, counsel for Lalit Sharma, former UT Advisor and co-accused in the case, the complainant said “He is an Additional Advocate General of Haryana and is close to Gen (retd) Rodrigues and other influential persons. They are wary that the case may be reopened and that is the reason why they have offered to become a party in the case. They (accused) are like Team B of CBI,” alleged the complainant. In response, counsel for accused said,“You must concentrate on the case instead of getting personal”.

First hand harassment!

Only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches! Recently a UT Administration official went to visit the Capitol Complex with his visiting relatives. It so happened that the senior functionary who was in his private car accompanied by his relatives reached the complex only to be stopped by a CRPF personnel who told him that he could not go ahead unless he has valid permission. After realising how tough it is to go through the ordeal that the UT Administration officials decided to do something on the four year-old proposal to simplify the procedure of obtaining permission for common visitors.

Holy Cow

Sending stray cattle outside the city has become quite a task for the officials for the Municipal Corporation. With the issue involving religious sentiments, attempts are being made to ensure that the cattle does not fall in harm’s way. The shifting has, meanwhile given the city residents some food for thought. Murmurs have started doing the rounds that after the stray cattle the next in line should be stray dogs who should be sent out of the city. While for stray cattle there are several takers, one wonders whether the same would hold true for stray dogs with most states grappling with the problem.

At the receiving end

It seems journalists are at the receiving end and are facing the wrath of people while performing their professional duties. A reporter and photographer of a Hindi channel were beaten up and the camera of the photographer was snatched by a Punjab police officer as the duo had tried to highlight the illegal encroachments by the security personnel of the police officer on a land adjacent to his residence in Sector 7,Panchkula. Earlier this week a criminal who was booked for road rage by police threatened and abused some reporters and photo-journalists as he was being clicked while being led to the court by the police personnel of Chandimandir police station in the state. The reporters took a stern note of this and it was only after the apology by the family members of the person that the reporters decided not to lodge a police complaint against him.

Double delight

On Friday, while it rained, hundreds of people who were at Sukhna Lake to savour nature were in for double joy. While the rain offered relief and brought the temperature down, the competitors taking on each other in rowing, canoeing and kayaking events was another sight to behold. The ongoing All India Police watersports championship even made few enjoying the ride in the lake compete against each other as they tried to copy the rowers. Needless to say, both the competitors and people had fun while the heavens opened up.
