It was a classic case of an overenthusiastic teacher showing her language skills. In a press release sent by a private school on a traffic camp organised there,the teacher wrote,It is heartening to see so many young lives being lost in road accidents every year. No wonder,the young woman who claims she is fond of writing did not realise her mistake and continues with her zealous adventure with writing.

Auto error
While the decision to phase out petrol and diesel autorickshaws by August 31 has been appreciated by many,the Administration does not seem to have thought of a replacement for this common mans mode of transport. A suitable alternative with much better safety,more convenience and less pollution has to be provided without compromising on the rates. Another issue is the fate of the phased-out autorickshaws. A few years back,when a similar decision was taken in Delhi,the creaky autorickshaws found their way to the neighbouring cities. We may soon see them plying in neighbouring Zirakpur and Mohali.

Fight club
The grapevine is abuzz that one of the senior officers of Punjab had a bitter argument with a woman officer. Being her senior,the officer censured her severely over some perceived delinquency. As she walked out of his room,the onlookers claim to have spotted tears in her eyes. The chastened officer has proceeded on leave for some days.

Wrong stand
Recently at a hearing,a police officer from Haryana stood ramrod erect in front of the judge. Perturbed at his overconfident posture,the subaltern of the advocate quickly whispered some advice. He asked him to act a bit jittery,fiddle with hands and lower the tenor of his voice. He felt the officers demeanour was further weakening his not-so-strong case.

Violation
Though the Administration has declared Chandigarh a polythene-free city,certain shopkeepers still seem inclined to exhaust their polythene stock. One such encounter was witnessed at a prominent store in Sector 18,where two young girls when handed over the stock in a polythene bag objected and asked the shopkeeper,Isnt the use of polythene bags banned in the city? The shopkeeper,seemingly rehearsed,replied,Even telling a lie is a sin,still people lie.
