Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Tuesday launched a mobile application — ‘Traffic Hawks’ — developed by Ludhiana city police to bridge the gap between public and the uniformed force. The app offers modules to redress grievances and complaints related to traffic and providing information on fingertips.
Mann described the app as a major citizen centric initiative of the Ludhiana Traffic Police. Anyone can download the app on their mobile phone and log in using their email id or phone number, Mann said.

Listing the salient features of the app, he said that the user can report a traffic violation by providing relevant videos and proof according to the type of violation. He said that the application will automatically send the GPS coordinates of the user on the clicked pictures, so that the authorities can track their location. Mann said that in the app, user can see all events such as roadblocks due to procession, protests, road construction, road repairs and others.
Mann said that if the user selects that there has been an accident or a traffic jam and provides the details, then the application will automatically send his GPS coordinates to the authorities to check the location. He said that users can also see the nearest officer on map by their location and contact them for any kind of help. Mann said that to facilitate the people, various methods to pay challan are also thoroughly explained in this module.
He said that the app also shows the list of traffic offences so as to make users aware of the violations and corresponding fines. He said that to educate the users various road safety signs have been explained. Mann said if a user is happy by the work of any staff of the traffic police, they can send a quick appreciation note to the department. He said that soon such an app will be launched for other cities in Punjab too.
