CLTA trainees Vanshika,Ishaque bring laurels

Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainees had a wonderful outing in the Ramesh Desai All-India Ranking tournament which concluded in Mumbai.

Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) trainees had a wonderful outing in the Ramesh Desai All-India Ranking tournament which concluded in Mumbai.

Local girl and CLTA trainees Vanshika Sawhney and Ishaque Eqbal grabbed both singles and doubles titles in the girls’ and boys’ under-12 categories.

Playing in the final Vanshika outplayed Nadini Das 6-3,6-0,to lift the singles title while for doubles title she partnered with Nadini to defeat the team of Himani Mor and Harsimrain Kaur 6-4,6-3.

Ishaque Eqbal,a student of DAV Model School,Sector 15,Chandigarh also grabbed twin titles. In singles final he overpowered Raghav Singhania 7-6(8),6-2. Later,he also claimed the doubles title. Besides them Nadini Sharma also reached singles quarters in girls’ under-12 category while Param Pun,another trainee,reached doubles semis.

Sharing his thoughts on the success,CLTA chief coach Gary O’Brien said,“It has been all due to team work. The associations main focus was to produce players in the under-10 and under-12 categories and we have worked hard for the past three years to achieve this. And we will continue to work on that aim.”
