Two groups in Fazilka clashed on Friday over the issue of dance classes for girls.
It is learnt that a dance school for boys,in Radhaswami colony,recently started classes for girls.
Some people in the neighbourhood were against girls attending these classes and clashed with those in favour. Initially,a fight started between 2-3 people of the two groups which later turned into a bloody clash with more people joining in.The clash spilled on to the road when the mob started attacking commuters,injuring five and damaging many cars and motorcycles.
The police,however,made no attempt to bring the law and order situation under control,alleged Fazilka MLA Surjit Kumar Jayani. It was a minor issue which turned huge because the police did not act in time, he said.
Meanwhile,Kuldeep Singh and Kashmir Singh were admitted to the civil hospital with multiple injuries. The father-son duo said, We were going towards the grain market when one group blocked our way on the main road and told us not to go further. We immediately turned back but a few other people attacked us with swords and rods. They also damaged our motorcycle.
Three more persons were also attacked who were given first-aid.
Fazilka DSP Karamjit Singh,when contacted,said, We will register an FIR against the mob as we are yet to identify the persons involved.
He said there was no delay in taking action and the situation was under control.
