A clash between workers of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress reportedly broke out in Chhat village near Zirakpur on Saturday. According to the police,Dr Manjit Singh from Congress and Mohan Singh of SAD,both residents of Chhat and neighbours,had an ongoing rivalry. The attack left Manjit Singh and the sons of Mohan Singh Bhupinder Singh and Amarjeet Singh seriously injured. Amarjeet told Newsline that he was washing his motorcycle outside his house in the morning when Manjit Singh started abusing and assaulting him. Hearing the screams,his brother Bhupinder and father Mohan Singh rushed to his rescue,following which Manjit Singh pulled out a revolver and fired shots at Amarjeet. Meanwhile,Manjit Singh claimed that the family attacked him first and he shot them in defence. The police have booked Manjit Singh,Sajjan Singh,Amar Singh,Mangu,Amarjeet Singh and Bhupinder Singh.
