The Teej function of the Municipal Corporation was postponed a day after the date was declared. The function was scheduled for Saturday. The reasons being stated for the postponement were bad weather and lack of adequate preparation.
The annual event of the Municipal Corporation was to be held at Dahlia Garden in Sector 36. For the first time the function was outsourced. This was done with the aim of managing the function smoothly as it was felt that officials will not able to handle such functions. The artists to be invited as well as the events to be held were announced. The hoardings for the event were put up and the invitation cards distributed.
However,in a sudden awakening the Municipal Corporation decided that the event would be postponed. One of the reasons reportedly is detection of certain anomalies in the allotment of the contract. While the officials are claiming that the contract was allotted after approval from the Arts,Culture and Sports Committee headed by Brig K S Chandpuri (retd),he says that it is the responsibility of the officials to manage the contracts. It is reportedly due to the ongoing tussle that the function has reportedly been postponed.
Additional Commissioner-II Lalit Siwach says that the preparations were not yet complete so the function has been postponed. The weather is not conducive as it has been raining for the past few days. There is a need for better preparations for the function to be held, he said.
Councillor Harjinder Kaur had opposed the outsourcing of the arrangements and said the civic body arrange the function on its own. Earlier over the selection of the venue,two Congress councillors wanted the function to be held in their ward.
