Ambala rail official awarded in Mumbai
Chandigarh: Nar Singh Dev,senior divisional operations manager,Ambala Division,was awarded by Union Minister for Railway Pawan Kumar Bansal for his services. Dev was honoured at the annual awards ceremony of the railway in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Jeweller arrested for buying stolen gold
Panchkula: Police on Tuesday arrested a jeweller for buying stolen gold jewellery from a thief in the city. Police said that the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested a thief in a case that was registered at Sector-5 police station and during investigation he revealed that he sold some gold jewellery to Hyder Ali,owner of a jewellery shop in Manimajra. Ali had melted the items,police said. A case has been registered against Ali for destroying evidence and purchasing stolen items.
Higher education pivotal for country’s growth
Chandigarh: A two-day seminar on ‘Education Development Public Private Partnership’ was organised by ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre,Panjab University (PU),in collaboration with the Department of Public Administration and Senior Citizens Council for Human Resource Development,Chandigarh. Prof B S Ghuman of PU while introducing the theme stated that the biggest challenge in India was to convert the demographic dividends to benefit the country and higher education would play a pivotal role for country’s growth.
Bhoomi pujan for fountain held in Industrial Area
Chandigarh: A bhoomi pujan was performed for the installation of a fountain in Industrial Area Phase II by area councillor Davesh Moudgil on Tuesday. The fountain that will cost around Rs 14 lakh is said to be installed within two months. The administration earns Rs 1,000 crore from the Industrial Area annually,so facilities,including better roads,parks and parking lots must be provided, Moudgil said.
Two blood donation camps organised
Chandigarh: Two blood donation camps were organised in the city by separate organisations on Tuesday. Around 35 units of blood were collected at a camp organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII),Northern region,in association with Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immuno-haematology. A team of doctors headed by Dr Ravneet Kaur from Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32,conducted the camp. Another blood donation camp was organised at City Heart Residency Hotel. The camp was inaugurated by Vivek Partap Singh,Municipal Corporation Commissioner.
CIIs Made in Pakistan from April 17
Chandigarh: The fourth edition of Confederation of Indian Industry’s ‘Made in Pakistan’ will be organised from April 17 to 20. The exhibition will showcase traditional Pakistani garments,footwear and brass handicrafts. Pikender Pal Singh,Regional Director,CII,Northern Region,said that the initiative was connect people of both the countries to improve bilateral relations.
Two held for vandalising PCR vehicle
Chandigarh: UT Police on Tuesday arrested two people for allegedly vandalising a PCR vehicle parked near Kishangarh Village. Police said around 1.30 am,Manimajra resident Vinay and Kishangarh resident Vinod,both in an inebriated condition,entered into an altercation,following which they were detained by PCR staff,who were stationed in the village. When they were brought near the PCR vehicle,the accused began to resist the police officials and damaged the rear screen of the vehicle, police officials said. The duo was arrested by the police.
K P Singh on executive board of PBDS varsity
Chandigarh: Dr K P Singh,senior consultant of endocrinology,Fortis Hospital,Mohali,has been nominated to the executive council of Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences,Rohtak,by the Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia,who is also the chancellor of the university. The notification was issued by the Haryana Raj Bhawan,recently. Singh’s term on the executive council will be of two years.
