Chandigarh Territorial Youth Congress celebrated Indian Youth Congress Foundation Day at the Congress Bhawan,Sector 35 on Friday. The local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal launched the website of the Youth Congress during the occassion.

Speaking after the inauguration,Bansal advocated active participation of youth in politics saying that the youth are the backbone of the nation. He appealed to the party members to render selfless service in the interest of the Congress party.

Maninder Dhillon,President of the Youth Congress said,“The youth should work for the betterment of the Congress party and the nation as a whole.” Harmail Kesri,vice-president of the unit described the role of youth in nation building and appealed to the youth of the state to disseminate the principles and ideologies of Congress party to grassroots level for better understanding.

Police seek arrest warrant of Nepal resident

PANCHKULA: Police on Friday moved a local court in Kalka seeking arrest warrant of a Nepal resident who allegedly murdered his wife and step-daughter on August 2. Investigations revealed that the accused Suraj Bahadur hails from Dada village in Nepal. Besides the double murder,Suraj also involved in a theft case in Himachal Pardesh.

Police said the accused was a labourer and was involved in construction work for a private university in Solan.

Station House Officer of Pinjore police station,Raj Kumar,said,“We have applied for an arrest warrant and we would send a police team to the neighbouring country to arrest him. We suspect that he has returned to Nepal and is hiding there after the murder.”

On August 2,police found the dead body of Bahadur’s wife Kiran and his step daughter.

Post-mortem report revealed that the woman and her daughter died due to strangulation. Police said that the murders had taken place days before they found the bodies as the woman who was killed had last spoken to her sister on July 29 and was not later seen by anyone after that.

Kumar said the police have carried out intensive search in Himachal but have not been able to locate the accused. “We found out from his friends that Suraj didnt report for work after the incident,” he said.

Attack on farmer: Year in jail to one,6-month term to 4

PANCHKULA: The court of judicial magistrate first class,Anudeep Kaur,sentenced five people to imprisonment for attacking Mam Chand,a farmer at Raipurani in 2009. The court awarded sentence of 1-year to one of the accused while handing down sentence of six months to four other accused. The accused filed an appeal with the District court here on Thursday.

The court of Anudeep Kaur sentenced one Rajiv to rigorous imprisonment for one year and also imposed a fine of Rs 200 for offence under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code. He also sentenced Raj Kumar,Surinder Kumar,Charanjit Singh and Narender Kumar to six months’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 200 under Section 323,506 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code.

The convicts have now filed an appeal with a District court. In the appeal,it was mentioned that Mam Chand who owned 31 kanals of land at his village in Raipurani was attacked by the accused on June 10,2009 while he was in his fields. He was hit on the head as well as legs. Police suspect the attack to be a fallout of a land dispute. The accused were armed with axes and sticks when they attacked the complainant.

15-year-old alleges rape

CHANDIGARH: A 15-year-old girl form Khajeri village on Thursday alleged that she had been raped by her neighbour a few days ago.

The victim told the police that her neighbour,Anant,raped her when her parents were not at home.

According to police,the accused,who is currently absconding,lived in the same building as the victim. Anant,19,is a labourer who hails from Uttar Pradesh.

The victim was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32,where medical reports confirmed rape. Police say the victim had approached the Child Protection Society who then informed the Chandigarh police.

A case of rape under Section 376 of IPC and of aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered at the Sector 36 police station.

“We have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused” said a police officer at the Sector 36 police station.
