Rajmeet Waraich City-based Soaring Eagles Moto Club (SMEC) on Saturday flagged off a traffic awareness drive which will be carried out en route to Khardung La in Leh Ladakh, the highest motorable road in the world. The drive was flagged off from the Leisure Valley in Sector 10, Chandigarh. A nine-member team comprising three women and six men will be riding through Jammu and Srinagar, Patnitop, Kargil, Sarchu,Pangong Lake and Manali, and create awareness on the importance of following traffic rules, wearing proper safety gear while riding, and ill effects of drunk and rash driving. President of the club, Michael, told Newsline, “During this drive, we will be talking to truck drivers, taxi drivers and general public, and create awareness through pamphlets, flyers and banners. Our motto is ‘ride to live, not to die’.” [related-post] Ira, 47, the eldest member of the group, said, “We will be riding two cars and three Royal Enfield bikes, and will be back after two weeks.” Michael added, “We hope to educate as many people as we can on this trip.”
