With two more suspected cases of cholera being tested positive,the number of cholera patients has reached four in Panchkula. As many as 11 more suspected cases were reported from different areas of the city on Saturday.
One suspected case was reported from Rajiv Colony in Sector 17,two from Maheshpur village and some from Mauli Jagran and Chandigarh. Also,Sector-5 resident Balwinder Singh and Sector-9 resident Sushma were admitted in the General Hospital with cholera symptoms.
Talking to Newsline,District Health Officer (DHO) Dr M L Garg said,While around 14 suspected cases came till Friday,around 11 more have been reported at the General Hospital in Sector 6.
Panchkula administration said the cleaning process has started and fresh water tanks have been provided to check further spread of the disease.
Panchkula MC president B B Sigal said all precautions were being taken and the workers have been sent to clean the colonies by Sunday.
Panchkula DC Pankaj Yadav said the situation is being monitored closely and the Civil Surgeon and District Health Officer have been directed to ensure supply of medicines in the affected areas.
The main water supply connection has been cut and drinking water is being provided through water tanks. Also,a heath camp has been set up at the Budhanpur colony, Garg added.
A resident of Budhanpur village,Raj Kumar,said,The condition in the colony is bad. Though the authorities are cleaning the area,a lot more needs to be done. The drinking water tanker that came yesterday had insects in it.
