Chaos marked the auction here on Tuesday with the RLA getting a record number of applicants for the first time. In the absence of adequate seating arrangements and provision of water, the bidders had a tough time and were gasping for breath in such a small portion of the premises where the auction was being held.
Consequently, the auction started about an hour late adding to the bidders inconvenience. Many bidders were seen complaining about seating arrangement and thus had queued up near the counters blocking the way for residents who had come for depositing DL forms and collect documents.
Whenever such an auction takes place in neighbouring state, the department makes arrangements for sitting and drinking water. After all,we are giving so much revenue to the department. This is the least that they can do. We have been sitting here for so many hours together, said an applicant on condition of anonymity.
Interestingly, this time 816 applications were received for 164 fancy numbers. Such a high number of applicants was a record in itself, said RLO Sanjeev Kohli.
Meanwhile,in the series of CH 01 AM,0002 went under the hammer for Rs 2.55 lakh while 0003 and 0005 in the series fetched Rs 2.20 lakh each. While 0009 fetched Rs 1.70 lakh,0007 went for Rs 1.81 lakh.
CH 01 AM 0044 went under the hammer for Rs 2.25 lakh and CH 01 AM 0045 was auctioned for Rs 1.17 lakh.
