Chandigarh: Two-and-a-half-month old puppy’s head severed, case registered

The Chandigarh Police has registered an FIR against an unknown person, after a mutilated body of a two-and-a-half-month old puppy was found in the jungle belt adjoining Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, on Wednesday evening. The head of the puppy had been severed, according to the complaint lodged with the police.
The matter came to notice after animal feeder Reena Reddy alerted local resident Kiran Sharma about the carcass around 6.30 pm on August 20. Reddy also recalled hearing unusual and loud barking by stray dogs in the same area during the early hours of the day, around 3 am.
Describing the incident as “psychopathic” and a threat not only to animals but also to human safety, Sharma submitted a written complaint at the Bapu Dham police outpost.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered an FIR against an unidentified accused under Section 11(1)(L) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 for intentional killing or maiming of an animal.
