Chandigarh Police receive more emergency calls this Diwali compared to 2016

The Chandigarh police control room on Thursday received about 8,818 telephonic calls out of which 503 were emergency calls, for which PCR vehicles were dispatched. Most of these calls made involved quarreling, road accidents, noise pollution, fire calls and miscellaneous including traffic jam, wrong parking, valuables missing, scuffle. In 2016, on the day of Diwali, about 5,700 calls were received at police control room out of which 414 calls were found actionable.

A senior police officer with control room said, “8,315 calls out of 8,818 were not actionable. The nature of most of these calls, which were received at police control room, was all about passing information to neighboring states, getting information from other states, passing information to police personnel, calls related to other wings including wildlife, fire brigade, traffic police etc.”

On Thursday, police control room received as many as 162 calls of quarreling, out of which most of them included drunken brawls, while 289 calls were miscellaneous in nature. Also around 32 people who suffered injuries were rushed to hospitals on Thursday night. However, the number of incidents of road accidents, noise pollution and ruckus was less than last year. Thirty one calls related to road accidents were received by the seven emergency call operators, while 12 calls related to fire incidents were received besides others. Sources in the police, however, said incidents of quarrels were less than last year. In 2016, police received 206 calls of quarrels while around 31 calls of fire incidents were reported.

Around nine calls related to noise pollution were reported at police control room after 9.30 pm. The calls were received from Sector 7, Sector 35, Sector 23 and some parts of southern division of Chandigarh. In 2016, about 37 calls related to noise pollution were received by the police control room. About 1,500 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order. About 830 police personnel out of 1,500 were from different police stations, 400 were from traffic police and 180 were from PCR wing of Chandigarh police. Six Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSsP) and 25 Inspectors were also deputed on duty.

22 calls of fire incidents from Chandigarh, Panchkula

As many as 22 calls related to minor fire incidents were reported at the fire control room in Chandigarh while 9 were reported in Panchkula. The fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot and the situation was controlled. No casualty was reported in these cases.
