As many as 1,650 motorists were challaned and 186 driving licences were recommended for suspension over drunken driving in the last seven months in Chandigarh.
The challaned motorists included two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers. Figures released by the UT traffic police said that during the year 2023 (01.01.23 till date), a total of 1,650 persons have been challaned and 186 driving licences of violators have been recommended for suspension by concerned courts while imposing heavy fines for drunken driving.
The traffic police claimed that zero tolerance against drunk driving has led to a reduction in night accidents.
Meanwhile, awareness drives were held wherein people were advised to drive carefully, not violate traffic rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. During these special drives, the traffic staff also instructed the motorists to follow road safety guidelines meticulously.

Meanwhile, the drive against drunken driving will continue in future for the safety of the general public on the city roads.
